Cumbria View Children‘s Home opened in June 2006 and is situated in a large detached house in Silverdale, near Carnforth, set in its own grounds of approximately two acres.
The home accomodates up to seven young people, of either gender. The young people will usually be aged between eleven and sixteen, although there will be some flexibility in this age range to take account of the individual’s developmental stage and cognitive functioning. The minimum age upon admission would be no older than fourteen years of age.
The purpose of the home is to provide a therapeutically managed facility to meet the nurturing, management, social, emotional and moral needs of young people who are unable to live in a family context.
It is envisaged that the young people will live in the home for at least two years; this is necessary in order to undertake therapeutic work to help the young person develop a sense of personal security and identify with consequent emotional and social development.

The young people living at Cumbria View will usually be educated at either Witherslack Hall School in Grange over Sands or Cedar House School in Kirkby Lonsdale. Staff from the home work very closely with education based staff in order to provide an integrated package of education and care.
Cumbria View Children’s Home is situated in a large detached house in Silverdale, near Carnforth set in it’s own grounds of approximately two acres and provides a high quality group living experience within a welcoming and warm domestic setting.
The ground floor of the home consists of a large and comfortably furnished reception room, a second very large living⁄dining room, good-sized fitted kitchen, a downstairs toilet, two bedrooms both of which are en-suite, a family bathroom and the Manager’s office.
The first floor contains a further five bedrooms, four of which are en-suite and a separate toilet. The second floor which is a staff only area contains a staff sleeping-in room and office in addition to a private bathroom for staff use.
All bedrooms are equipped with a colour television, DVD player, telephone point and internet access, there is also a facility to relay Sky TV from the main lounge to each bedroom.
Externally there are extensive grounds consisting of a large lawn area and formal flower beds as well as a small orchard, green house and potting shed.
All young people living at the Cumbria View Children’s Home have individual bedrooms and are encouraged to personalise thier rooms to ensure opportunities to feel secure and comfortable are maximised.
All of the young people are given opportunities to access a wide range of leisure and social facilities in either a supported, semi-independent or independent manner. Within the locality there are a variety of facilities that the young people access and enjoy; shops, parks, fairground, beach and cinema in addition to activities that offer a more structured programme of events; sporting clubs, swimming pools and youth groups. The young people are fully involved in deciding which activities take place.
The home is ideally situated to provide easy access to community facilities and is only a short walk from the village centre.
